Boxing Results: IBF Super Light Champ Subriel Matias Upset By Liam Paro


IBF World Super Lightweight champion Subriel Matias, 20-2 (20), was upset by southpaw Liam Paro, 24-1 (15), by a 12-round unanimous decision on Saturday night at Coliseo Juan Aubin Cruz Abreu, Manati, Puerto Rico,

In the first round, Paro used an effective jab to take the round. In the second round Paro out worked Matias. In the third round Matias started opening up out slugging Paro.

In the fourth and fifth rounds, it was close, with Matias having a slight edge. In the sixth round Matias started to wear Paro down.
In the seventh round Referee Luis Pabon took a point from Paro.

In the ninth round Matias used a good body attack taking the round. In the tenth and eleventh rounds Paro was tiring holding too much.

In the twelfth and final round, Paro came back well enough to take the round.

Scores 115-112 twice and 115-111.

WBO NABO Super Lightweight champion Angel ‘Tashiro’ Fierro, 22-2-2 (17) lost to Alfredo Santiago, 15-2 (6) over 10 rounds.

In the first three rounds Fierro was the aggressor but Santiago out landed him for the most part. In the fourth and fifth rounds Santiago landed lead lefts on the chin of Fierro throughout.

In the sixth round Fierro went to the body well until Referee Janny Guzman warned him for a low blow. In the ninth warned for hitting behind the head again was Fierro.

In the tenth and final round Santiago continued out landing Fierro. Santiago was returning to the ring after two years.

WBC Continental Americas Fly champ Yankiel ‘El Doctorcito’ Rivera, 6-0 (2) defeated Victor ‘Chucky’ Efrain Sandoval, 37-5 (23) over 10 rounds for the vacant WBA Continental Americas Fly and vacant WBO Inter-Continental Fly titles.

In the first three rounds Rivera out worked Sandoval. In the sixth round Rivera continued coming forward taking another round.

From the fourth through the eighth rounds Rivera continued out landing Sandoval.

In the tenth and final round knowing he needed a knockout Sandoval may have won his first round.

Welter southpaw Stephanie Pineiro, 7-0 (2) defeated southpaw Diana Tapia, 7-2 (2) over 10×2 rounds.

In the first round three rounds southpaw Pineiro landing double and triple jabs won all three rounds.

In the fourth round Pineiro landed right hooks on the chin of southpaw taking another round. In the fifth round, Tapia continued coming forward landing little, being countered by Pineiro.

In the sixth round Tapia forced her will having Pineiro against the ropes at times taking her first round. In the eighth and ninth rounds Tapia had a good round out working Pineiro.

In the tenth and final round it was the one with the most action as Pineiro had an edge.

Referee Melva Santos. Scores 100-90 twice and 99-91.

Super Light Olympian William ‘Willito’ A. Ortiz, 6-0 (4) defeated Carlos Mitzael, 6-3 (3) over 6 rounds.

In the second rounds end of the first minute, southpaw Ortiz landed a pair of counter lefts dropping Mitzael for an 8-count from Referee Jose H. Rivera.

He came back holding his own until the final thirty seconds when Ortiz landed a solid left on the chin. In the third and fourth rounds Ortiz held a slight edge.

Twenty seconds in the fifth round Ortiz landed a left after a jab on the chin and down went Mitzael for an 8-count from Referee Rivera.

In the final minute due to a clash of heads Ortiz was cut on the right eyebrow and suffered a bloody nose. In the sixth and final round, Mitzael came back well having not been stopped in his previous fights.
