Bryce Harper’s food poisoning had MLB fans thinking about raw milk

Seemingly out of nowhere, Phillies star Bryce Harper logged onto TikTok in late December and felt like it was time to start his influencer era. What started as a snowboarding clip turned into regular cooking and coffee tutorials from Harper himself.

But, uh, some of those recipes were worrisome, and we might be seeing why as the Phillies started reporting to spring training camp.

On Monday, Harper and Aaron Nola were absent from the Phillies’ first workout as a full squad. Manager Rob Thomson said that both players were out with food poisoning, which seemed relevant given what Harper had been putting in his coffee.

In Harper’s first coffee tutorial, he said that he preferably uses raw milk to make his vanilla lattes. In the video, he did use Maple Hill milk, which is pasteurized. Consuming raw milk, though, poses elevated risks of infections from E. coli, listeria and salmonella — among other unpleasant and dangerous infections.

Now, it’s unclear whether Harper’s milk preference had anything to do with his absence on Monday, but MLB fans all went there with the report.
