Chargers Worked Out Offensive Lineman Thursday

The Los Angeles Chargers are filled with the type of optimism they haven’t had in a long time as training camp starts to unfold for them.

They have an excellent new head coach in Jim Harbaugh, who gave an interesting and meme-worthy analogy for his first day of camp with his new team.

From all outward appearances, it looks like Harbaugh wants to remake the Chargers in his own image as a squad that plays smash-mouth football, and that starts with an offensive line that hits first and hits hard.

While Rashawn Slater and rookie Joe Alt, the No. 5 pick in April’s draft, are the cornerstones of that offensive line, depth is important, and per Aaron Wilson, Los Angeles worked out offensive lineman Zach Johnson on Thursday.

Johnson played his college ball at North Dakota State University, a member of the NCAA’s Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), and while there, he provided outstanding pass and run protection as his team won three straight national championships.

He went unselected in the 2020 NFL Draft, and after stints with five NFL teams, he joined the Birmingham Stallions of the United Football League (UFL) last October.

While there, he earned a spot on the All-UFL team for the 2024 season while helping the Stallions win the league championship.

Harbaugh’s teams in both the NFL and NCAA have been physical, tough-minded teams, and everywhere he has gone, he has transformed his teams into winners.

He did it with a San Francisco 49ers team that was stuck in rebuilding mode when he took over in the 2011 season, and most recently, he turned the University of Michigan into a powerhouse while guiding them to a win in last season’s College Football Playoff National Championship Game.

If nothing else, the Chargers won’t be boring or bland this season.
