Ever since the San Francisco 49ers announced that Brock Purdy would be their starting quarterback, pundits and fans alike started debating whether that was a good decision.

Purdy took the reins of the team because of injuries, but he looked significantly better than both Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance, so it was an easy choice to make.

Even so, and despite watching him play well and leading the team to one of the best records in the league, some still called him a ‘system quarterback.’

Nevertheless, former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel believes that’s a mistake.

In the latest edition of his podcast with Dianna Russini, he argued that Purdy wasn’t a system quarterback, he was the actual system and the catalyst for their success.

He also believes that Purdy’s ceiling is a top-five QB in the NFL.

He’s been tailor-made for Kyle Shanahan’s offense, and people shouldn’t hold the fact that he’s surrounded by talent against him; he’s not to blame for that.

Purdy even delivered when it counted in the playoffs, and he was the main one responsible for their comeback in the NFC Divisional Round vs. the Green Bay Packers.

Shanahan’s string of questionable decisions in the Super Bowl cost the team the win, not Purdy.

Still, the narrative around him could change drastically as soon as he gets the massive pay raise he’s expected to get in his new contract.

He’s now an underdog, and his contract also allows the Niners to keep him surrounded with elite weapons.

Needless to say, the expectations will be significantly different when he starts making top-dollar.
