Chile Defeats Slovak Republic in Davis Cup Group Action

Sunday’s Davis Cup action featured Cristian Garin picking up a much-needed victory for Team Chile over Norbert Gombos, defeating the Slovak 2-6, 6-1, 6-2.

Garin, who owns five ATP Tour titles, aided Chile significantly in picking up their first tie victory of the week.

World No. 22 Alejandro Tabilo was ousted earlier in the day by Jozef Kovalik 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-1, before the doubles duo of Tomas Barrios Vera and Nicolas Jarry defeated Gombos and Lukas Klein 6-4, 6-7(3), 7-6 to seal the 2-1 victory.

Irrespective of their efforts on Sunday, Chile and the Slovak Republic failed to reach the Davis Cup final in Malaga, Spain this year. The United States and Germany reached the Davis Cup finals earlier this week with 3-0 and 2-1 records, respectively.

Still to come on Sunday, Australia will face Spain, Canada will take on Great Britain and Italy will go up against the Netherlands.
