With the NBA Finals officially in the books, with the Boston Celtics beating the Dallas Mavericks and winning an NBA record 18th title, the attention turns to the upcoming 2024 NBA Draft, with all eyes on LeBron James’ son and where he might land in the two rounds of the draft.
There’s less than a week left until the Atlanta Hawks are on the clock with the No. 1 overall pick, and all the speculation right now is not on the first player taken, which will likely be French import Alex Sarr, but rather Bronny James.
After an unimpressive short stint at the University of Southern California, Bronny James will head into the draft having averaged less than five points in college and having many questions about whether he’s actually good enough to play in the NBA like his dad has been able to do for more than two decades.
Despite Bronny James’ shortcomings, which are painfully evident at this point, the consensus seems to be that the Los Angeles Lakers will bring him in with the No. 55 overall pick in the second round of the draft next week.
After making the controversial and questionable move to hire JJ Redick as their new head coach, the Lakers might make another head-scratching move to bring in a project out of USC, which might be nothing more than nepotism.
ESPN’s Chris ‘Mad Dog’ Russo recently appeared on The Dan Patrick Show and discussed how ridiculous it is that Bronny James will likely be drafted next week.
“I don’t think Bronny James is that good,” Russo said. “He scored four points a game at USC. He wouldn’t even play at UConn. He needs another year of college basketball.”
Although it seems increasingly likely that the Lakers will draft Bronny James, the logic doesn’t make sense, as he doesn’t help the team immediately, which many would think is what Los Angeles wants right now.
Only time will tell how things pan out for Bronny James and if the Lakers use a draft pick on the unproven USC product.
