Cincinnati expected to name Brendan Sorsby as starting QB

Cincinnati is expected to name Indiana transfer Brendan Sorsby its starting quarterback, sources tell 247Sports and CBS Sports.

Bearcats head coach Scott Satterfield had said last Friday, upon Cincinnati completing fall camp, that he expected to name a starter by the early or middle part of this week.

The 6-foot-3, 235-pound Sorsby, who made seven starts at Indiana last year, has been competing for the job with 2023 Bearcats backup Brady Lichtenberg. At Indiana last season, Sorsby finished the year with 19 total touchdowns and just five interceptions. He accounted for multiple touchdowns in each of his final five starts, including five (three passing, two rushing) in a 48-45 overtime loss to Illinois.

“We like the fact that he’s a big player,” Satterfield said of Sorsby in December. “He’s 6-foot-3, 230, brings great size. … He’s not easily swayed in the pocket. He’s gonna be able to stand strong in that pocket and still make those throws that you have to make down the field. And sometimes you get hit and he showed that on film. He also showed the ability to get out of trouble and also to run the football.”

Cincinnati opens its season against Towson Aug. 31. The Bearcats are entering their second season under Satterfield and their second year in the Big 12 after finishing last season 3-9.
