Commanders at Eagles TNF Picks & Lines for Week 11

NFL Game Odds: Commanders at Eagles TNF | Both will meet for the 181st time on Thursday night, with control of the NFC East at stake.

The Commanders took a surprising home loss on Sunday when they fell to the Pittsburgh Steelers, 28-27.

The Eagles moved a half-game past the Commanders to take the division lead when they rolled over the Dallas Cowboys, 34-6.

This has been one of the tightest rivalries in NFL history – since their first meeting, on October 21, 1934, the Commanders have won 89 times.

The Eagles have won 85 meetings, and six have ended in ties. One of the most notorious meetings in this series took place in 1990 and is still known as the “Body Bag Game” as nine different Washington players took game-ending injuries.

That was during the era when Buddy Ryan was the head coach of the Eagles and was rumored to put cash bounties out there for players who would injure particular targets on the other team.

The Eagles have won the last two meetings in a rivalry that remains as heated as ever. Read on to get our sports betting prediction for this NFC East classic.

At halftime against Pittsburgh, it looked like the Commanders had control of the game. They had limited the Steelers to just 97 yards of offense. The Steelers would come back and finish with 312 yards, but the Commanders kept Russell Wilson from looking as consistent as he had in his first two starts. His deep ball wasn’t as accurate – he was just 2 of 7 for 40 yards and a score and a pick on passes with at least 15 air yards until he found Mike Williams on a fourth-quarter bomb that traveled 40 yards through the air. The Commanders also took advantage of several key Pittsburgh mistakes, including a failed fake punt and three penalties against cornerback Joey Porter Jr.

Jayden Daniels

Daniels also struggled for the Commanders, going just 16 of 33 for 194 yards. The Steelers used a variety of blitz packages to keep him in the pocket, and the result was a decrease in accuracy. He missed on a pair of throws in the second half that he has hit in prior games – one that would have gained up to 30 yards and another that could have gone to the house for a 96-yard score. The first throw went wide, and the second just didn’t have enough air under it for his receiver to track it down.

However, when it was time to preserve a 10-point lead, the Commanders showed us that they’re still working through that learning curve when it comes to becoming a winning team. Cornerback Marshon Lattimore (hamstring) hasn’t been able to take the field yet – but the promising acquisition will add more starch to the Washington defense when he’s healthy.

Philadelphia Eagles TNF Line -185

Obviously, routing the Dallas Cowboys isn’t a sign that you’re ready for contender status. Even the New Orleans Saints did that, back in Week 2, and they went on a losing streak that cost head coach Dennis Allen his job. They do have five solid wins in a row, but all of those have come against opponents with losing records. Now we’ll see what the Eagles are made of with several tough opponents on deck.

The Eagles’ defense suffocated the Dallas attack – you can say that the Cowboys had a backup quarterback out there, but Cooper Rush had posted a 5-1 record when starting games in place of Dak Prescott before Sunday. The Eagles held him to just 45 passing yards before Trey Lance came in to mop up. Linebacker Zack Baun led the team in tackles with eight and forced a fumble from tailback Ezekiel Elliott in the red zone, leading to a touch back.

Jalen Hurts

Hurts’ ability to avoid pressure was also impressive. He dropped back to pass 21 times in the first half and faced pressure 13 times (62%) – the highest pressure rate he has seen in any half in his NFL career, with a minimum of five drop backs. On those plays, he went 5 of 6 for 101 yards and a score – and he also took five sacks and fumbled the ball on those plays.

In the second half, he did much better dealing with the pressure and accounted for four touchdowns – two on the ground and two through the air. That response to adversity was a major part of the Eagles turning a dangerous 7-6 lead into a 34-6 win, as they finished with 27 unanswered points.

NFL Game Odds: Commanders at Eagles TNF Final Score and Prediction in Week 11

Philadelphia Injuries

For the Eagles, offensive tackle Jordan Mailata (hamstring) was able to participate fully in practice but remains questionable. Wide receiver DeVonta Smith (hamstring) has not taken part in practice and is doubtful. The same goes for cornerback Darius Slay (ankle). Tight end Dallas Goedert (ankle) played against Dallas, but is questionable for Washington after missing practice. Linebacker Nakobe Dean (groin) also missed practice but is doubtful.

Washington Injuries

For the Commanders, tailback Brian Robinson Jr (hamstring) is questionable and was limited in practice. The same goes for offensive tackle Cornelius Lucas (ankle), offensive tackle Brandon Coleman (shoulder), center Tyler Biadasz (ribs), and right tackle Andrew Wylie (shoulder). Linebacker Jordan Magee (elbow) was a full practice participant. Cornerback Marshon Lattimore (hamstring) did not practice and is doubtful for Thursday. The same goes for kicker Austin Seibert (hip).

Washington travels to Philadelphia on a short week. They’ve been getting some lucky bounces in recent weeks, such as that Hail Mary win that clanked off a Chicago defensive back and ended up in Washington hands for a 15-13 win. The Eagles have won five in a row – and have beaten the Commanders in their last two meetings, both in shootouts. The Commanders have a new coach this time around in Dan Quinn, and he has had the defense fired up, but that defense wilted a bit last week.

Can Washington get right tackle Andrew Wylie back? He remains questionable, as does starting tailback Brian Robinson Jr. Those additions would give the Commanders more offensive credibility. I see the combination of Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley doing more damage than Jayden Daniels and Robinson, but I’ve underestimated Washington before this season.

I think the Eagles are rounding into form at the right time and will pass this test against a contender, so I predict a final score of Philadelphia 30, Washington 24.
