Coric Upsets Defending Champion Baez at Winston-Salem
Top seeded Argentine Sebastian Baez was ousted during the round of 16 of the Winston-Salem Open on Tuesday, losing to former Cincinnati Open winner Borna Coric 6-3, 6-4.
Baez, who owns six ATP Tour titles, fell to 30-21 on the season.

Using his footwork and return game to great effect, Coric hit seven aces, won 88 percent of his first serve points and broke serve on three occasions.
Coric will next face Rinky Hijikata for a place in semifinals.
Earlier in the day, No. 3 and fellow Argentine Francisco Cerundolo was also ousted by American Zachary Svajda, 6-4, 6-4.
Elsewhere, Thiago Seyboth Wild defeated No. 8 seed Nuno Borges 7-6(2), 6-2 and Arthur Rinderknech dismissed Christoper O’Connell 6-3, 6-4.
Other winners included No. 10 seed Lorenzo Sonego, No. 15 seed Pavel Kotov, David Goffin and Pablo Carreno Busta.
The Winston-Salem Open is the final ATP Tour event prior to the start of next week’s US Open.
Olympic Gold Medalist Novak Djokovic and American Coco Gauff are the defending champions of the year’s final Major.
