Dallas defenders converge to save five-hole goal


Of the eight NHL teams still alive in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, only one has allowed fewer goals per game than the Dallas Stars — who were also among the regular-season leaders in fewest goals allowed.

One play from Saturday’s win over the Colorado Avalanche demonstrated exactly why Dallas’ defense has been so good.

With the game still scoreless late in the first period, Colorado nearly jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a goal through the legs of Jake Oettinger. But Dallas’ skaters had their goalies back, with Jamie Benn and Ryan Suter converging almost simultaneously to keep the puck from crossing the line.

And it was all captured by this incredible in-goal camera angle:

That was an incredible save, and it sparked a big 4-1 win for the Stars. They lead the series 2-1.
