Da’Sean Butler Lands Job with Boston Celtics: Report

After spending the 2023-24 college basketball season as an assistant coach with the West Virginia Mountaineers, Da’Sean Butler is reuniting with his former WVU teammate, Joe Mazzulla in the NBA.

Butler, who played for the Mountaineers alongside Mazzulla from 2006-10, will join the Boston Celtics as a video coordinator, while also taking part in player development, first reported by Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe.

The Miami Heat selected Butler with the 42nd overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft after he was a key part in West Virginia’s 2010 Final Four team.

Throughout his career in Morgantown, the 6-foot-7 forward averaged 14.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game, before playing professional basketball overseas in Europe and Asia.

He could score anywhere on the court and was a consistent threat from three, knocking down 205 three-pointers over 146 career games.

Butler tallied 2,095 career points, which is the third-most in school history trailing Jerry West and Rod Hundley. Not only was he a prolific scorer, but he was a great rebounder for his position, grabbing the eighth-most offensive rebounds in program history with 270.

Now that he returns to the NBA, the former West Virginia great will look to help the Celtics defend their title as NBA champions.
