December 29, 2024 — Finding a league, finally

Yesterday, we talked about the opening of the Hockey India League.

We noted that the YouTube presence for the public broadcasting service Doordarshan National had livestreamed the opening ceremony and the opening match yesterday. However, we noticed that there was no replay capability for this game, an exciting encounter that went into a penalty shootout before the Delhi Pipers came out ahead.

In the “we do the legwork so you don’t have to” vein of our job, we found a solution for you. And yes, there is an app for that.

For full games as well as livestreaming, you can download the South Asian media app called Waves from either Google Play or the Apple Store. Apparently, all you need to do in order to watch Hockey India League content is provide an email address. As far as I know, there’s no cost or subscription fee.

The video doesn’t allow you to do an AirPlay to your TV (that we can tell), but you might be able to use a Lightning-to-HDMI adapter to watch the games on a computer monitor. The Waves app has replays and livestreaming for HIL games, and I hope this continues.
