Djokovic Rolls into Wimbledon Second Round

Seven-time former winner and No. 2 seed Novak Djokovic cruised into the second round of the Wimbledon Championships on Tuesday, defeating Vit Kopriva 6-1, 6-2, 6-3.

Needing one hour and 58 minutes to advance, Djokovic hit 10 aces, won 90 percent of his first serve points and broke serve on six occasions.

Recently having knee surgery during Roland Garros, Djokovic looked in great form during his opening match. The 37-year-old Serb will next face Jacob Fearnley or Alejandro Moro Canas.

Elsewhere, No. 4 seed Alexander Zverev, No. 7 seed Hubert Hurkacz, No. 9 seed Alex de Minaur, No. 14 seed Ben Shelton, No. 25 seed Lorenzo Musetti and No. 30 seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry all reached the round of 64.

No. 20 seed Sebastian Korda lost in five sets to Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. The Frenchman slammed 51 aces in three hour and 21 minutes.

Defending Women’s Champion Vondrousova Ousted

Defending women’s champion Marketa Vondrousova lost in straight sets on Day 2, losing to World No. 83 Jessica Bouzas Maneiro 6-4, 6-2. Needing one hour and 7 minutes to advance, Bouzas Maneiro will next face fellow Spaniard Cristina Bucsa.

Other women’s results on the day included No. 4 seed Elena Rybakina, No. 5 seed Jessica Pegula, Laura Siegemund, Xinyu Wang and Harriet Dart all reaching the second round.

Wednesday’s action at Wimbledon will include Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Daniil Medvedev, Naomi Osaka and Coco Gauff.
