February 20, 2025 — A week for Weeks

Last week’s inaugural season for the Maybelline Women’s Lacrosse League featured goals aplenty as well as some viral moments. Taylor Moreno scored a goal as a goalkeeper. A number of players from both the recent gold-medal U.S. box lacrosse team shone, as well as those who represented the U.S. in the most recent WorldLacrosse Women’s World Cup.

Emily Hawryschuk, Charlotte North, and Ally Mastroianni scored amazing goals. Hawryschuk won the league’s Golden Stick award for the league’s leading goal-scorer, and Charlotte North’s Boston Guard took home the inaugural WLL Championship Series title.

But for me, the best player out on the St. James field last Monday morning, the most valuable player of the final, was North’s teammate — both on the Guard and for Boston College — Cassidy Weeks.

While Weeks was in the headwaters for the Golden Stick award, she proved to be extremely valuable as an all-around player. She had a hat trick for the Guard in the final, plus four assists. Too, it seemed as though the ball and her were always together in the middle third of the field. In transition, she had the ball. On redefends, she was a ball-hawk.

Weeks demanded, and received the ball. She led all players in completed passed on the day, with 36. In a 32-minute game, that’s astounding. That’s not only because you only get the ball about half the game, but the space is compacted in a Sixes game.

In the biggest moments of the tournament, Weeks was at her best. I, for one, hope that her all-around performance will get her a look at the next U.S. training camp for outdoor lacrosse.
