It’s been a summer of huge commitments in the college football world, and another highly-ranked star is ready to make his decision. Five-star Sachse (Texas) wide receiver Kaliq Lockett will make his commitment next Wednesday, Aug. 7, at noon CT/1 p.m. ET during a live announcement on the 247Sports YouTube channel. Lockett will pick from a group of Alabama, Florida State, LSU, Texas and Texas A&M.
247Sports ranks the 6-foot-2, 175 pound Lockett as the class of 2025’s No. 12 overall prospect, No. 2 wide receiver and No. 5 player in Texas.
Lockett debuted in the Top247 as a four-star prospect in August 2022, but it wasn’t until he put together a strong junior season on the field last fall that schools started showing him more attention. Lockett holds 31 offers from programs around the nation and took a full compliment of official visits over the summer seeing all of his finalists.
Throughout the spring and summer, each school on his list had their moments of buzz. LSU and Florida State jockeyed for position in the early spring while Texas and Texas A&M took their turns following visits to the in-state powers. Alabama came on suddenly during the summer securing a late official visit, and the Crimson Tide looked to be in the driver’s seat coming out of that trip.
Texas currently holds the edge on the 247Sports Crystal Ball, entering the announcement. The Longhorns could use a win after missing out on several high-value targets, including the nation’s No. 1 wide receiver, Dakorien Moore, who chose Oregon in July.
Each team in the running has been able to showcase a complete vision to Lockett when it comes to on-field plans and life after football. After concluding his visits in June, Lockett and his family took some time to think over the decision and set an announcement date.
As a junior, Lockett caught 59 passes for 1,299 yards and 13 touchdowns. The 247Sports scouting report on Lockett reads as follows:
“Tall, long-armed, physically gifted high-major receiver prospect with excellent on-field context accompanying limitless long-term potential. Possesses enormous hands and a 6-foot-7 wingspan. Dexterous and strong-handed. Displays advanced body control, vertical bounce, and timing. More than capable of going up and over multiple defenders to get contested throws. Freaky functional athlete who can elevate, land on his feet, and burst into full gait. Detonates out of cuts with explosive acceleration. Owner of impressive combine testing and some solid track and field.
“Exceptional production as a junior with 59-1,299-13 (22.0 per catch), going from 43 ypg as a soph to 118 ypg as a junior. Might lack the very top-end gear the fastest receivers in the class possess, but plenty fast and otherwise more than compensates for that highest gear. Ball occasionally gets into him, but again, flashes iron traps for hands in combat situations. Do yourself a favor and watch the junior highlight reel, which is frankly insane. Projects to the high-major level as a likely impact player with long-term NFL Draft early-round potential.”
