Following a successful career with the Houston Cougars, point guard Jamal Shead was selected with the 45th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft by the Toronto Raptors.
In his first taste of action during the Las Vegas Summer League, the 6-foot point guard showcased his all-around game dropping nine points, four rebounds, and four assists.
He was one of the best defenders in college basketball last season, averaging 2.2 steals per game. As a result, Shead was awarded the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year award, becoming the first player in school history to do so.

Not only was he one of the best defenders in college basketball last season, but he can score the ball in a variety of ways, putting up a career-best 12.9 points per game leading Houston to a 32-5 record in 2023-24.
In his second career summer league game, Shead continued to make his presence known tallying nine points, three rebounds, and five assists.
The former Cougar will have to polish his outside jumper to have an even bigger role with the Raptors since he shot just 30.6% from three last year. However, his defensive presence and playmaking abilities can give him a significant role in the team’s rotation.
Toronto is looking to improve after finishing last season with a 25-57 record, its lowest win total since 2011-12.
