Four-Star QB Ty Hawkins Flips from TCU to SMU

Class of 2025 four-star quarterback Ty Hawkins originally committed to TCU back in June 2023, but flipped his commitment to the SMU Mustangs on Wednesday, per On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

Hawkins is the No. 146 overall prospect in the 2025 class and the 11th overall quarterback, according to 247Sports.

SMU now ranks as the 32nd best recruiting class in the 2025 cycle, since its class consists of three four-star prospects along with Hawkins.

The future Mustang will finish his high school football career for IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida and according to Sports Illustrated, Hawkins threw for 2,093 yards and 24 touchdowns last season, while also adding 833 yards through the ground game.

SMU had an impressive showing in 2023 with an overall record of 11-3, going undefeated in conference play. The team was led by QB Preston Stone who threw for 3,197 yards to go along with 28 touchdowns.

The team reached its second-straight bowl game appearance, before falling to Boston College in the Fenway Bowl.

Starting this upcoming season, the program will play its first season in the ACC and open up the 2024 season on the road at Nevada on Saturday, Aug. 24 at 8 p.m. EST on CBS.
