Birmingham Bowl Betting Odds 2024 | If you’re a big fan of college football bowl games, then Friday is going to be a big day for you.
The college football slate has five bowl games on the schedule, including the Birmingham Bowl, which pits the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets against the Vanderbilt Commodores.
Both teams have transfers and opt-outs going into this game, but Vanderbilt seems to have a bit of an edge there, as they are only losing offensive tackle Gunnar Hansen to the transfer portal.
Georgia Tech will not have Eric Singleton, Romello Height, Taye Seymore, or Corey Robinson due to transfer, but starting quarterback Haynes King will return after an eight-overtime loss, and Zeek Biggers and Jackson Hawes will also play.
Both of these teams have done well against the elites of college football – Georgia Tech knocked off then-#4 Miami back on November 9, and Vanderbilt famously stopped then-#1 Alabama at home.
How will these programs do against each other? Don’t miss our sports betting preview for this showdown.

Birmingham Bowl Betting Odds, Final Score and Prediction for Georgia Tech vs Vanderbilt
Georgia Tech has the slightly better offense and defense if you look at the numbers. The Yellow Jackets are 14th in the nation in EPA per play, while Vanderbilt is 24th. Georgia Tech is also 51st in EPA per play permitted, while Vanderbilt is 67th.
You could come back and say that the SEC is vastly superior to the ACC, as we’re hearing in the aftermath of the beatings that Clemson and SMU took in the first round of the College Football Playoff, which would mean that Vanderbilt would be expected to have worse metrics but could still be seen as a better team. Even so, the “over” is a stronger play here than taking either side of the point spread.
Georgia Tech scored 29.1 points per game, and Vanderbilt put up 26.8. This isn’t a cold-weather game, and while rain is possible, both teams should be able to move the ball either way.
Georgia Tech has gone over the point total in three of their four games against SEC teams since Brent Key took over as head coach. Under Clark Lea, Vanderbilt has seen 20 games with sports betting point totals between 49.5 and 56, and those games have gone over 14 times.
I predict a final score of Georgia Tech 31, Vanderbilt 27.
Why should you bet on the Yellow Jackets?
Haynes King played through an injured shoulder for the second half of the season, but that didn’t stop him from throwing for 303 yards and running for 110 more against Georgia in the regular season finale. Vanderbilt struggled to defend against the pass this year, coming in 124th in the nation in EPA per play permitted and 125th in success rate. The problems came in pass coverage, and Georgia Tech slot receiver Malik Rutherford could wreak havoc in this game. He had five games with at least six catches.

Also, while Vanderbilt did stop Alabama, they still only went 6-6. Three of their wins did come against SEC competition; between 2019 and 2023, the Commodores had only won three conference games combined, but if Georgia Tech shows some of the same defensive moxie they showed against Georgia, they should be able to get the win here.
Why should you put your money on the Commodores?
Quarterback Diego Pavia has been one of the top stories in the nation this year. He transferred in from New Mexico State and accounted for almost 3,000 scrimmage yards, with 23 touchdown passes against just four interceptions.

The Commodores’ win over Alabama was clearly the season highlight, but Pavia has been producing all season long. Vanderbilt is 7-2 against the spread as an underdog this season. If you like them in this game, you see the imbalance in opt-outs hurting the Georgia Tech cause.
