The MLS playoffs continue on Monday night as FC Cincinnati takes on NYCFC in the first game of their three-game set.
The way this round of the MLS playoffs works is that it’s a best-of-three round, with the team that gets to two wins first advancing.
If a game is tied at the end of regulation, then the match will go straight to penalties to determine a winner.
NYCFC finished the season ranked sixth in the Eastern Conference of the MLS with 50 points in 34 matches and a plus-five goal differential. FC Cincinnati, meanwhile, finished third in the East with 59 points in 34 matches and a plus-10 goal differential, led by Luciano Acosta.

These two sides last faced off under a month ago, on Oct. 2, in a pivotal matchup as far as playoff seeding. With NYCFC hosting the match, the team was able to secure the vital 3-2 win behind goals from Mitja Ilenic, Alonso Martinez and Santiago Rodriguez, who scored from the penalty spot in the 75th minute). Acosta scored for Cinci in the match, also from a penalty, but by the time Corey Baird scored in the 96th minute, the match was already 3-1 and pretty much decided.
