Bryson DeChambeau cannot be happy with the outcome at Valhalla, considering he was close to victory, challenging his previous record. Bryson shot a final round of 64 (-7), which still wasn’t enough to beat Xander Schauffele, who scored a 21-under-par total.
LIV golfer emphasized in a media interview that this was a disappointing result for him but certainly a huge motivation for the upcoming challenges. The 30-year-old golfer hopes that in the future period, he can deliver better performances. DeChambeau showed at this year’s PGA Championship that he’s a golfer who can make an impact at other Majors as well.
“Definitely disappointing, but one that gives me a lot of momentum for the rest of the Majors. I said today it was closing time, but it will be closing time hopefully, hopefully over the next couple Majors,” DeChambeau said, as reported by Golf Monthly.
Although he expected that 18 under par would be enough for victory, it ultimately didn’t happen. Bryson was somewhat surprised by Xander Schauffele’s performance, who showed top qualities from the first day. Already at the previous Wells Fargo Championship tournament, Xander hinted that he could achieve such success, finishing as the runner-up. That was surely a motivation for this excellent golfer to continue at the same pace, believing that he could secure a victory.
The 30-year-old golfer was also impressed by Viktor Hovland’s performance, who kept pace with them both. Ultimately, he believes that all three of them showed the qualities necessary for this level of golf. Although it was difficult to perform at their best at the PGA Championship, Bryson believes that his performance in this Major provides optimism for the future.
“Yeah, I certain seriously thought 18 [under-par] was going to do it,” Bryson DeChambeau said.
“Then when I saw what Xander was doing, it’s like, man, he’s playing some unbelievable golf. Viktor was right there. I mean, he was beating me for quite awhile, and I was hitting it all over the place. But, yeah, I mean, it was an impressive, impressive round of golf by all three of us. I don’t know what else to say. It was just difficult.”
In reflecting on his performance, Bryson DeChambeau expressed that he gave it his all and exerted maximum effort, believing that his B game would be enough. However, he stressed that someone played extremely well, referring to Xander. He credited Xander as deserving of the Major championship and emphasized his commitment to giving his all for the fans.
Similarly, DeChambeau admitted that he surprised himself a couple of times, particularly with his putting. He felt confident in his ability to make crucial putts when needed and was satisfied with his performance in those critical moments. Despite the surprises and self-impressions, he recognizes that he can repeat such performances but acknowledges that it will take some time and adjustments.
Bryson DeChambeau’s performances this year
Bryson also had a quality performance at the Masters Tournament this year. Bryson DeChambeau finished T6, earning $695,000. He awaited such a moment, hoping to achieve a better result, which indeed happened.
However, when you finish T2, you have the right to be disappointed, considering that you were surely close to victory. The 30-year-old didn’t particularly impress this year in terms of LIV Golf tournaments, with his best result being T4 at LIV Golf Jeddah.
Besides that tournament, Bryson finished T6 at LIV Golf Hong Kong.
LIV Golf Miami was also a solid tournament for him, finishing as T7.
Bryson has ambitions to improve things in LIV Golf as well, believing that he can start playing significantly better on this Tour supported by Saudi Arabia.
Bryson DeChambeau is already looking forward to the next Major. Looking at his performances in this year’s two Majors, it’s clear that Bryson is excellent in Majors this season. From June 13th, he will have the chance to play at the US Open and show fans his qualities. Can he win this time?!
It will be interesting to follow the remaining two Majors because there are many quality golfers on both Tours at the moment. Since the arrival of LIV Golf, golf fans have viewed things differently at Majors, dividing golfers into those who play LIV Golf and those who play on the PGA Tour. There is a special focus on those from LIV Golf, and it seems that many are not impressed with the performances of LIV Golfers at Majors this year. They will have the chance, just like Bryson, to improve things as early as next month and change the image of LIV Golf among fans. DeChambeau has certainly done them proud this time, it must be admitted.
