‘I Think He’s a Great Prospect’

While fielding five-star prospects each season has been something that Kansas fans have come to expect, Bill Self believes there’s something different about Flory Bidunga.

KSNT’s Carolina Soro asked Self for his thoughts on the Indiana native, which prompted the Jayhawks head coach to mention, “I think Flory’s probably as good of a prospect as we have.”

Coming out of Kokomo High School in the Class of 2024, Bidunga was listed as a five-star prospect by the 247Sports index and earned McDonald’s All-American honors as a senior. He also checked in as the 14th-ranked player in the country, the fourth-ranked player at his position, and the top-ranked prospect in the state of Indiana.

“We’ve got to figure out who he is, how he impacts us, and what he can do to help because he’s really not tall,” Self said. “I mean, he’s 6’7, 6’7.5, but he’s a terrific, freakish type athlete that can change directions, jump, and put pressure on the rim. He can do a lot of things, but can he play with Hunter, or how does it work? So he’s got some things to work at and to see exactly how it works, but I think he’s a great prospect.”

While Bidunga will still have to get his feet wet at the college level, the five-star freshman could prove to be an important piece for Bill Self and Kansas’ loaded roster in 2024-25.
