The Philadelphia 76ers entered the 2023-2024 NBA season with abundant confidence.
They started the year off strong, but when Joel Embiid went down, it was tough for them to regain their dominance as the season went on.
Despite rallying and making the playoffs, it was clear that the 76ers didn’t have the depth or health to make a deep run this year.
While some suggested that the 76ers move a few pieces and start over, a new belief of their plan has surfaced.
Now, it appears that the 76ers will not only try to extend Tyrese Maxey for the long term, but they seem to have a plan for Joel Embiid, as Keith Pompey highlighted in a recent Philadelphia Inquirer article.
“The Sixers will be able to negotiate a three-year extension worth $193.5 million in addition to the $106.6 million he’s set to make over the next two seasons,” Pompey said.
Embiid could be tied to the team for the foreseeable future, keeping him and Maxey together.
These two have quickly become the heart and soul of the organization, players that fans have clung to.
76ers fans are finally starting to buy into the “process” that was started several years ago, as the team has made strides over the past few years.
If they can keep growing and developing, this roster could turn into a championship-caliber team before they know it.
Of course, they’ll have a tough test in the Eastern Conference, given the continued growth and success of teams like the Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, and Indiana Pacers.
