With conversations resurfacing regarding Penn State’s late score with six seconds left in the 2023 matchup, West Virginia head coach Neal Brown provided his thoughts on the situation.
Brown downplayed the situation slightly but also commented on the importance of handling business in 2024, given the opportunity.
“It just is what it is, you know,” Brown said. “Like, I’m really not using it. It just is what it is, you know. They scored late. I don’t really have necessarily a problem with it, but it is what it is. Here’s the thing: if our guys need something like that to motivate them, then eh, but I will say this: the score of the game’s the score of the game. And we didn’t play very well.”
Brown was asked about the situation following some comments from defensive lineman Edward Vesterinen, who made sure to note that the team is taking the rematch against Penn State personally.
“We had a chance to win the game in the third quarter when winning plays were required, and we didn’t make those winning plays, and they did,” Brown continued. “And so, you know, they beat us.”
Brown finished his thoughts by saying, “Now we’ve got an opportunity to play them at home. And this is going to be the last time that West Virginia and Penn State are on the field together, especially here in Morgantown, for the foreseeable future. I guess we could always play in the playoff or a bowl game or something like that, but this is the last time for the foreseeable future.”
West Virginia will kick off the 2024 season in Morgantown on Saturday, August 31st, and will have a chance to get the best of Penn State.
