Iga Swiatek dominates the WTA Tour, especially on clay courts, where her superiority over all other tennis players is embarrassing. The WTA No.1 ruled at Roland Garros, risking big only in the epic match won in three sets against Naomi Osaka. From the 4th round onwards, however, Iga left only 11 games to her rivals: crazy numbers. But the Polish champion is already looking beyond Paris, analyzing at the press conference what she expects from Wimbledon and the upcoming grass-swing.
“I have some ideas to improve on grass in view of Wimbledon. I feel that every year I am improving and I have to continue working. However, I have tennis players that I often face like Coco Gauff, Elena Rybakina and Aryna Sabalenka. They are not the rivalries that we see like those of the Big Three but sometimes it depends on the surface,” she explained.
Jasmine Paolini could do nothing in the Parisian final. Iga won her 5th career Slam, her fourth here in Paris, at just 23 years old. A clear domination with her opponents who on clay on manage to compete with her athletic and tactical power.
“This victory means a lot, the tournament was surreal from the beginning with a second round where we all know what happened, when I was 1-4 in the third set against Naomi Osaka. From there I managed to improve my game in every match and I’m really, really proud of myself, there were high expectations and a lot of pressure but I’m happy I went through it all,” she analyzed.
Both in Madrid and against Osaka, Iga took a really big risk but she managed to win in the end.
“Matches like those make me understand that I must always believe in myself, I can find my tennis again even when I’m in trouble and fight to get back. I have confidence and will always do my best, no matter who my opponent is. When I talk about pressure it’s about the pressure I put on myself at home from the outside. Obviously I’m a perfectionist and I can manage it, then when pressure comes from the outside it’s worse and it’s more complicated but this time it went well,” she explained.
