Jannik Sinner joined a huge club after Halle

First title on grass of his career, fourth final won on as many plays in 2024, second tennis player after Roger Federer to become number one in the world and win the tournament in Halle. There was no better way for Jannik Sinner to prepare for the prestigious Wimbledon event: the South Tyrolean had to beat his best friend of the circuit Hubert Hurkacz to win the trophy of the German event.

A challenge certainly special emotionally for the two, who began the week playing doubles together (not a novelty for them): their wish was of course to cross again in the final and we are finally successful.

The first difficulties were for Hurkacz, who had to cancel an insidious ball break in the third game before retaining service. The same is forced to do Sinner in the next game (with a straight on the line difficult to contrast) after a smash finished net.

The two players then proceeded ‘on serve’ without giving the opponent another chance. The tie-break, quite obvious, could only be pulled: the decisive cue was the native of San Candido, who won a point in response to the 8-8 and then closed using his bar (10-8).

Jannik Sinner doesn’t stop winning

In the second set Pole Hubi Hurkacz had problems especially in the first game at service, in the opening, having to cancel two consecutive break balls. The Italian was very solid. No opportunity to break, both had to ‘settle’ to play another tie-break.

This time Jannik Sinner did not need the advantages to assert himself and to file the file definitively (7-2). Just another week to frame in this 2024.

Jannik Sinner has become world number one after Roland Garros, a tournament in which he reached the semifinals and the top of the gentlemen’s standings for the first time in his career, becoming the first player in his country on what scale at the top of the ATP ranking.
