With one final matchday in the Women’s Hockey India League, the one team with two Americans on it, the Shrachi Rahr Bengal Tigers, is playing the league co-leaders, Soorma H.C.
The Bengals are in third place in the table with two wins, two defeats, and one shootout loss. Both Soorma and the Odisha Warriors have 10 points, and both have a goal differential of +6.
In order for the Bengal Tigers to vault into a playoff position (second or better), the team would not only need to beat Soorma, but overturn their own -3 goal differential. A five-goal win by Shrachi would give the team a +2, and knock down Soorma’s goal differential to a +1.
Is this possible? We’ve seen a number of pretty incredible results coming from the locale where the WHIL is being played, Ranchi Stadium. This is where the United States were able to qualify for the 2024 Olympics a year ago. And that was a team that the Bengals’ Ashley Hoffman captained.
Look out. This could be interesting.
