Jarry Advances to Chengdu Quarterfinals; Nakashima Reaches Hangzhou Final Eight
No. 3 seed Nicolas Jarry reached the quarterfinals of the Chengdu Open on Friday in China, defeating Lukas Klein 7-6(2), 3-6, 6-4.
Needing two hours and 18 minutes to advance, Jarry struck 19 aces, won 79 percent of his first serve points and hit 24 winners.
Winning three career titles, Jarry will next face Alibek Kachmazov for a place in the semifinals. Kachmazov ousted Taro Daniel 7-6(1), 6-1 earlier in the day.
Other winners on the day included No. 4 seed Pedro Martinez over Aleksandar Vukic 6-3, 6-4 and Yannick Hanfmann defeating hard-serving Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
Saturday’s action will feature top seed Lorenzo Musetti in his first match of the tournament.

Hangzhou Open—China
No. 4 seed Brandon Nakashima continued his strong season on Tour on Friday in Hangzhou, China, dismissing qualifier Coleman Wong 6-7(7), 7-6(4), 6-1.
Nakashima slammed 21 aces, broke serve on two occasions and added 39 winners to his victory.
Up to No. 37 in the latest rankings, Nakashima will next face Rinky Hijikata in the final eight. Hijikata advanced via a walkover from No. 7 Fabian Marozsan.
Other players to advance on Friday included Mikhail Kukushkin and Yunchaokete Bu. Kukushkin defeated countryman Alexander Shevchenko 6-4, 7-6(3) and Bu stunned No. 2 seed Karen Khachanov 7-6(7), 4-6, 6-3 in two hours and 27 minutes.
Yunchaokete Bu is currently ranked No. 124 in the world and Khachanov is ranked No. 23.
Saturday’s schedule in Hangzhou will feature top seed Holger Rune and former US Open winner Marin Cilic.
