Kansas lands Mississippi State transfer Shakeel Moore

In the wake of the news that Elmarko Jackson will miss the upcoming 2024-25 season due to injury, Kansas basketball has added to its transfer portal class. On Wednesday, Mississippi State transfer Shakeel Moore announced his commitment to the Jayhawks. The transfer guard will have one season of eligibility left, which he will use during the 2024-25 season.

This past season at Mississippi State, Moore started 22 of the Bulldogs’ 33 games, averaging 23.5 minutes per game. During his time on the floor, the 6-foot-1 guard averaged 7.9 points per game on 46.8 percent shooting from the floor, including 36.3 percent shooting from 3 on 2.4 attempts per game. He also chipped in with 2.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game.

Over the course of his three years at Mississippi State — which included 99 games — Moore averaged 8.8 points per game. He shot 51.8 percent from 2 and 30.7 percent from 3 during his time in the SEC. He also averaged 2.1 assists with 1.6 turnovers per game. He averaged 1.4 steals per game, too, during his time in Starkville.

Prior to his time at Mississippi State, Moore began his college career at NC State. Coming out of high school in the 2020 class, the North Carolina native was a four-star prospect and ranked inside the top-150.

As a transfer, 247Sports ranks Moore as the No. 275 transfer in the portal and the No. 27 combo guard.

The Jayhawks can technically recruit up to 13 scholarship players but in that instance, KU would have to vacate a scholarship next season due to the self-imposed punishments from the IARP case. If KU plays the 2024-25 season with 12 scholarship players, the Jayhawks can move on from the scholarship reduction after the upcoming season.

KU can add players from the portal all the way up until the academic window to enroll at KU closes in the fall semester. According to the KU Registrar, the final day to enroll in class online is Friday, August 30.
