If Tyronn Lue becomes available, the Lakers would have strong interest. The 47-year-old, who has one year left on his contract with the Clippers, won a championship coaching James with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016. He’s also lost in the NBA Finals twice and made the Western Conference finals with the LA Clippers in 2021. He’s a former Laker, having won two championships as a player in 2000 and 2001. His teams have ranked in the top five in offensive rating in five of his seven full seasons.

End of James availability
How it starts and ends with James and PG as leaders… how he knows what Dallas wants to do to make him uncomfortable and how it is about what he does more than what they do, and Tyronn Lue being even keeled and rest of team is as well.

Disgraceful showing by the Clippers, who need to make a strong statement by firing Ty Lue. In a way that’s deeply disrespectful and unprofessional. I’d even cap it by publicly daring him to take a job with the Lakers. Goad him all the way to El Segundo. That would show fans! AK – 12:15 AM

Lue was the Lakers’ top option during their 2019 coaching search, which ultimately landed them Frank Vogel. Lue told ESPN he Lakers offered him a pay decrease and wanted to determine his coaching staff, which made him feel underappreciated. It’s unclear how or if that history might factor into his interest. He’ll certainly have support from James, who has made it known he still thinks highly of Lue’s coaching. -via The Athletic / May 3, 2024

“If it was all up to LeBron, he’d have Ty Lue as his coach and he would do that with the Lakers,” one Eastern Conference executive said. “That’s his guy. Out of all the coaches LeBron has ever had, the one he singles out is Ty. Now he is in a position where he has free-agency on his side and he can maybe force the team to do something to get his guy if he gets fired. -via Heavy.com / May 3, 2024
