The Michigan Wolverines reeled in a big commitment from the state of Texas Tuesday when Andrew Marsh pledged to the Wolverines. The Top247 wide receiver from Fulshear (Texas) Katy Jordan chose Michigan out of 34 offers from programs such as Washington, Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, USC and several others.
At 6-foot-1, 175 pounds, Marsh is ranked as the No. 10 wide receiver in the nation and No. 13 overall prospect in Texas, according to 247Sports.
In his three-year high school career, Marsh had 149 catches for 2,414 yards and 31 touchdowns. What are the Wolverines getting in the gifted pass catcher? We’ve got the details.
WHAT ANDREW MARSH SAYS ABOUT MICHIGAN
“I really like what [Ron Bellamy] can do,” Marsh told The Michigan Insider in early August. “Whenever I come up here, we’ll chop it up and we’ll always try and get a little something going. So, (I think he’s a good developer) just based off of what I’ve worked on with him, seen him do, and watching practices, and stuff like that. And then really his track record and his history at the school coaching the receiver position. I really like what he brings to the table.”
WHO ELSE WAS IN THE MIX?
Washington, USC, Kentucky and Texas all received official visits. While there was some buzz with Washington and Kentucky, Michigan emerged as the leader in the summer and cemented themselves following official visits season. Kentucky made a strong enough push thanks to Marsh’s relationship with wide receiver coach Daikiel Shorts, but Michigan ended up being the total package for Marsh and his family.
HOW ANDREW MARSH FITS WITH MICHIGAN
A versatile receiver with advanced route-running and elite aerial ability, Marsh can line up inside or outside at the next level. The Wolverines will be able to utilize him as an outside receiver who can push defenses vertically and win on contested catches.
WHAT WE THINK OF ANDREW MARSH
Marsh debuted in the Top247 in August of 2022 as a Top 100 prospect. He’s held his status inside the Top 100 since that time. The 247Sports scouting report on Marsh reads as follows:
“Explosive, productive receiver with a lean, wiry-strong build and impressive athletic markers in high jump, vertical, and broad jump categories. Frequent big-play merchant thanks largely to slippery strength and athleticism in run-after-catch situations. Unorthodox in gait and play style, but fights through tackles and maintains balance to get extra yardage despite a slighter frame. Long-striding runner with some build-up speed. Owns early high school 400-meter times in the low 50.00s. High jumped 6-4 as a junior. Big vertical and broad numbers reflect go-get-it ability in contested scenarios. Above average route-leveraging for this stage of development. Finds ways to slip multiple defenders with unique deceleration / acceleration acumen combined with balance and body control. Gained more than 1,100 yards as a junior and enters senior season with 2,400-plus career receiving yards. Adds value as a potential return game option (one punt return TD in 2023). Needs to add some mass and strength to maximize aforementioned RAC playmaking vs. bigger, stronger, faster P4 defenders. High-major receiver prospect who could develop into an impact player with legitimate long-term NFL Draft upside.”
