The National Bank Open final is approaching. It will be played on Monday after Sunday featured the remaining two quarterfinals and both semifinals.
In the last eight matches, Sebastian Korda took out Sascha Zverev, and Alexei Popryin edged Hubert Hurkacz. The pair then met in the semi-final, with the Aussie clean sweeping the first set tiebreak after a topsy-turvy first set before he won the second 6-4.
The other semi-final featured Andrey Rublev and Matte Arnaldi; the red-hot Russian came through 6-4, 6-2.

Rublev Topples Sinner
Andrey Rublev is having one of those weeks and he overcame defending champion Jannik Sinner 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 victory.
I had expected Sinner to dominate the hard court swing, but he struggled with a right hip issue during the match, particularly in the deciding set. This problem has troubled him throughout the middle part of the 2024 season.
Both men were on double duty, beating Nakashima and Tabillo, respectively and after a delayed start due to rain, Rublev used his powerful baseline play to forge a lead. Following another rain delay, Sinner re-emerged to dominate the second set, dragging Rublev into extended rallies and levelling the match without facing a break point.
However, Rublev saved five break points in the third set’s opening game, broke Sinner to establish a 3-0 lead, and crossed the line 6–2.
It was a great match for me. I played well today, and I’m happy to have won. Jannik is an incredible player, and he’s been playing unbelievably for the past two years. I was just hoping to fight and show great tennis. We had a lot of long rallies, and winning this match is special, especially after some tough moments this year. Rublev on his win over Sinner.

Arnaldi Aces Nishikori
Kei Nishikori had a resurgent week in Montreal, but Matteo Arnaldi proved a step too far as the Italian camera through 6-4, 7-5. The Italian has climbed 17 places to No. 29 in the ATP Live Rankings, and he played some clutch stuff in crucial moments, saving four of six break points and converting five of nine break opportunities to make the last four.
I’m pretty tired, with some rain delays and everything, but I’m really happy. I played some good tennis today. I had two tough matches. So I’m really happy with how I managed to play and to manage some important moments during matches. So I’m happy for that and looking forward to playing tomorrow. Arnaldi on his win.

Popyrin Edges Hurkacz
Alexei Popyrin reached the last four of the Montreal Masters by edging out Hubert Hurkacz 7-6 (5), 7-5 at Stade IGA on Sunday evening.
The Aussie has a heavy-hitting game, and he leveraged that to make an impressive comeback from a set and 1/3 down against Hurkacz, who had a sniff of victory at 5-5 in the second set tiebreak, but it was Popyrin who found a way over the line.

Korda Conquers Zverev
Sebastian Korda is enjoying the North American hard courts. He took out second seed Alexander Zverev to secure a spot in his second ATP Masters 1000 semi-final.
Korda came out on top with a 7-6(5), 1-6, 6-4 win, aided by the German delivering 11 double faults, including a critical one that handed Korda a decisive break in the ninth game of the final set.
It means a lot. It’s been a tough year before the US hard-court swing. I‘ve just put in a lot of work, and I’m so happy with the results. I’m just really enjoying my time on the court. Having fun, trying to play aggressive, keep doing my thing, and hope for the best. I’ve had good preparation for the US hard-court swing, and physically, I am doing well. I’m healthy, that’s probably the main thing for me. To stay healthy, and just have fun on court. When I do that, I feel like I can play some pretty good tennis. Korda on his win.

Rublev Rallies Past Arnaldi
Andrey Rublev’s surge in Montreal shows no signs of slowing down as he powered past Italy’s Matteo Arnaldi with a 6-4, 6-2 victory, securing his spot in Monday’s final.
The rain has played a considerable part this week, and this match featured a one-hour, 40-minute interruption when the score was 6-4, 1-1.
Upon resumption, Rublev returned to the court with a flurry of winners, reeling off five of the last six games to seal the match.
It has been a season of highs and lows for the Russian, but he’s firmly on the up in Canada, and nobody has been able to get on top of him so far.
The wait has been worth it. I’m happy to be in my first Canadian final. I just want to recover, rest well, and be ready for tomorrow. The decision [to skip the Olympics] was to be more prepared for Canada, and making the final shows it paid off. Rublev on his Montreal campaign so far.

Popyrin Makes Maiden Masters 1000 Final
Few would have expected Alexei Popyrin to make the final in Montreal, but he’s got there by grinding out several victories, his latest ending Sebastian Korda’s eight-match winning streak.
The Aussie was on the brink of defeat in his quarter-final match against Hurkacz. In the semi-final, he overcame a topsy-turvy first set before dominating the second to secure a 7-6(0), 6-3 win over the Washington champion.
Popyrin has a heavy game from the baseline and a powerful first serve, which he used to dominate, winning 83 per cent of points on his first serve. He also capitalised on Korda’s second serve, winning 62 per cent of those points.
Korda had been on a great run, and when he saved two set points at 4-5 before breaking for 6-5, he looked well on his way to making back-to-back finals. But Popyrin rebounded immediately, forcing a tie-break, which he won decisively, 7-0. He carried that momentum into the second set to secure the victory.
