With Friday’s play in Montreal a complete washout, the top half of the draw was on double duty on Saturday. To further complicate matters, three players also had to finish their round of 32 matches.
Fortunately, the weather cooperated, and all 16 rounds and two quarterfinal matches were completed.
Of those forced to play twice from the top half, Andrey Rublev took out Jannik Sinner after he had seen off Brandon Nakashima earlier in the day.
Sinner had beaten Tabilo in his third-round match, but Rublev was having one of those weeks, and the Russian proved too strong for Sinner, who appeared to be dealing with a hip problem.
Kei Nishikori also played his first Masters 1000 quarterfinal in five years after defeating Nuno Borges, but he couldn’t go any further, losing to Matteo Arnaldi, who had also beaten Alejandro Davidovich Fokina earlier in the day.
Other round of sixteen results saw Sascha Zverev defeat Rune, Popryin upset Dimitrov, Hurkacz defeat Rinderknech, and Seb Korda receiving a walkover after Casper Ruud withdrew.

Rublev Sets Sinner Showdown
Fifth seed Andrey Rublev booked a quarterfinal clash with World No. 1 Jannik Sinner by cruising past American Brandon Nakashima 6-2, 6-2.
When Rublev is in the right mood, he’s hard to stop, and he produced a flawless performance, striking 22 winners and committing just five unforced errors. 4 of the winners came in one game
Rublev has now climbed one spot to ninth in the race to Turin, and he is just 45 points behind eighth-placed Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Sinner Sinks Tabilo
Jannik Sinner is the man to beat on hard courts this season, and he continued his impressive form by defeating the Canadian-born but representing Chile, Alejandro Tabilo 6-4, 6-3 to advance to the quarterfinals in Montreal.
After a sluggish start, Sinner found his trademark crips ball striking midway through the first set, and his much-improved first serve can keep him out of trouble even when he’s not firing on all cylinders.
The Italian has fond memories of Canada, where he claimed his maiden ATP Masters 1000 title last year in Toronto. He will face Rublev for a spot in the last four.
Tricky opponent, tricky conditions. It is difficult playing against this type of player. Huge lefty with big potential. I had to be very careful, looking a lot to make the game. It felt like a good match. I know in my mind I have to play one more time [today], so there is not much time to be happy and recover. I am happy to play again later. When you are a set and a break up you want to close it in two. If I want to play the second match today, I had to win the first one. So if it took three or four hours, it takes that long. It will be a tough match against Andrey. He played great today. Sinner on his win.
Other Matches of Note
Nishikori Knocks Off Borges: Kei Nishikori reached his first ATP Masters 1000 quarterfinal since 2019 by defeating Portugal’s Nuno Borges 6-3, 6-4. He will face Arnaldi in the last eight.
Arnaldi Takes Advantage of Fokina’s Foibles: It was a strange end, as Davidovich Fokina retired with a sudden illness after losing 0-3 in the final set to Matteo Arnaldi.
Zverev Routs Rune: An impressive performance from the German as he defeated Holger Rune 6-3, 7-6(5). Zverev is metronomic from the baseline and has won 49 matches, a tour best this season.
