While former Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh left the program to accept the head coaching job for the Los Angeles Chargers, he is still facing some major backlash from the scandal at Michigan.
According to reports from ESPN’s Pete Thamel and Dan Murphy, the Wolverines’ new head coach, Sherrone Moore, is one of seven names accused of violating NCAA rules.
According to the NCAA’s notice of allegation draft obtained by ESPN, “Moore could face a show-cause penalty and possibly a suspension for allegedly deleting a thread of 52 text messages with former Michigan staffer Connor Stalions in October 2023 on the same day that media reports revealed Stalions was leading an effort to capture the playcalling signals of future opponents. The draft states that the texts were later recovered via ‘device imaging’ and Moore ‘subsequently produced them to enforcement staff.’ Moore is accused of committing a Level 2 violation, according to the draft.”
In addition to the immense violations Moore is facing, the report also detailed that NCAA investigators determined that Connor Stalions was, in fact, on the sidelines of a Central Michigan game wearing a disguise in an effort to steal the Michigan State signs, who Michigan played later that season, winning 49-0.
While punishment details are still subject to change, to say that Michigan’s coaching staff is in hot water at this point would be an understatement.
