In a recent appearance on the Marty and McGee Show in West Virginia, head coach Neal Brown had some choice words about ESPN’s list of the top 100 Players in College Football.
Brown mentioned that he texted an ESPN employee and asked how they still have a job after snubbing key WVU athletes.
“I texted one of your colleagues at ESPN the other day,” Brown said. “They did this top 100 players list in college football, and I’m like, ‘Man, how do you have a job? And how do you decide the top 100 list when Garrett Greene’s not on it?’ Cause I don’t get it.”
Garrette Greene became one of college football’s biggest dual-threat playmakers in 2023, throwing for 2,406 yards and a touchdown to interception ratio of 16-4 while posting 708 yards and 13 scores in the ground game.
“We’ve got a tackle, Wyatt Milum, who’s going to be either a first or an early second-round pick; he wasn’t on the list either.” Brown continued. “I’m just wondering, did you not get to W as you were looking at players, cause West Virginia, you know, did you not get down to our name?”
The Mountaineers were left completely out of the top 100 college football players list, despite the Big 12 Conference having 12 different athletes named to the list.
West Virginia will have an opportunity to prove those at ESPN wrong when they kick off the 2024 season on Saturday, August 31st vs. Penn State.
