New York Giants’ ‘active’ QB search ties them to pair of Pro Bowlers

A year ago, the New York Giants were entering the season with Daniel Jones as their franchise quarterback. Now, they enter the offseason with Tommy DeVito as the only quarterback on the roster.

Needless to say, the Giants will be primarily focused on upgrading their QB room this offseason. That process could take shape in free agency first, with a number of former Pro Bowl options available, including Sam Darnold, Russell Wilson, and Aaron Rodgers.

While the Giants also have the third overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, they’re likely to add a rookie and a veteran this offseason. Recently, an NFL insider took a look at the Giants’ offseason QB plans in what’s expected to be a jam-packed adventure.

The New York Giants will have to evaluate all options as general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll attempt to return to the postseason in 2025. The good news is, the Giants are already hard at work.

According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Giants are expected to be “active” this offseason as they look to solve their quarterback woes. That includes through free agency and the draft.

“A busy offseason for the Giants. They have only one quarterback under contract for the 2025 season. They’re going to be active, and it’s going to start in free agency. They met with Russell Wilson last year, they could revisit that one as well. Sam Darnold does have some experience in the New York market. Other veterans will be available. I do expect them to add a veteran in free agency. It could provide some flexibility in the draft. Might not have to take a quarterback at No. 3. The Giants are going to explore the possibility of moving up and moving down. They did it last year. They’ve already met with Jaxson Dart and Shedeur Sanders. So I’m expecting them to meet with these quarterbacks in the draft.”

Wilson would be an upgrade over the Giants’ options in 2024, which included Daniel Jones and Drew Lock in addition to DeVito. Yet, the former Super Bowl winner is also 36 years old and would do nothing to reduce the Giants’ urgency to find a long-term solution.

Darnold, on the other hand, will be just 28 next season. If the Giants can convince the 2024 Pro Bowler that Daboll can get the most out of him while capitalizing on the superstar ceiling of Malik Nabers, perhaps a strong contract offer can lure Darnold to New York.

If so, the Giants could use the third overall pick on another need, such as landing Heisman-winning two-way sensation Travis Hunter or Mason Graham, pairing another dominant interior defender with Dexter Lawrence. That formula might just be enough to help the Giants narrow the competitive gap in the NFC East.
