PGA to allow LIV players to play Ryder Cup

The PGA and LIV continue to move closer together, as confirmed by the statement published by the PGA of America on Thursday, announcing that it will “pardon” and admit the players who headed to Saudi Arabia for the Ryder Cup and the PGA Championship.

Following this agreement, American players on the Saudi circuit will be under the umbrella of the PGA and will be eligible for the American Ryder Cup team, such as Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau or Phil Mickelson.

The Spaniards, Jon Rahm, who was heavily criticized for accepting the exorbitant financial figures offered by the LIV, and Sergio García, will not be affected, since they depend on the European circuit to compete in the Ryder Cup.

“To ensure that the PGA Championship continues to offer the strongest field in golf and that the American Ryder Cup team continues to have access to the best American players, the PGA of America board has determined that LIV Golf players will be eligible for both.

From now on, all LIV Golf players will be eligible for the PGA Championship and any American player who qualifies for the Ryder Cup on points or is added to the US team as a captain’s choice will be eligible to compete. This is in line with LIV golf players who have competed in the PGA Championship the past two years.

Brooks Koepka was a member of the US Ryder Cup team last year,” the statement reads. With this statement, there is still a rapprochement of positions between the organizations of the best golf circuits, such as the new edition of “The Match”, which will face the Saudi and American circuits in Las Vegas.

The Rules of Golf are a set of rules and standard procedures by which the sport of golf should be played. They are jointly written and administered by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, the governing body of golf throughout the world, except in the United States and Mexico, which are governed by the United States Golf Association.

An expert committee, made up of members of the R&A and the USGA, oversees and refines the Rules every four years. The latest revision was effective January 1, 2016. Changes to the Rules of Golf generally fall into two main categories: those that improve understanding of the Rules and those that reduce penalties in certain cases to ensure balance.

The rulebook, entitled “The Rules of Golf,” is published on a regular basis and also includes rules governing amateur status. In Italy, the Federgolf is responsible for supervising competitions by enforcing the rules issued by the R & A, checking that these rules are observed by the Clubs, Associations and their members and managing the resulting sporting justice, protecting their interests abroad.
