Philadelphia Eagles GM Howie Roseman pours cold water on team trading for 4-time All-Pro defensive stalwart

It was a quick Super Bowl celebration for the Philadelphia Eagles as they have now officially moved on to offseason priorities.

According to OverTheCap.com, the Birds have $22.3 million in cap space for 2025 with several key championship pieces hitting free agency in All-Pro linebacker Zack Baun, defensive end Josh Sweat, defensive tackle Milton Williams, and offensive lineman Mekhi Becton.

The Eagles will also look to add some cap space by reworking contracts and releasing aging veterans.

With the potential departures of Sweat, Brandon Graham to retirement, and Bryce Huff if cut/traded, the Birds will need to beef up the EDGE position either through the 2025 NFL Draft or trade.

One potential acquisition could be a former Defensive Player of the Year who is looking for a new home, but Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has poured cold water on a trade happening for Philadelphia.

Speaking to reporters at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis, Roseman wouldn’t specifically answer a question about Cleveland Browns’ Myles Garrett, who has requested a trade. But when asked about the parameters to make a trade for a player of Garrett’s profile in regards to age, position, and roster construction, it doesn’t sound like the four-time All-Pro will be coming to the City of Brotherly Love.

“Anytime that you’re talking about giving up a high pick and a lot of money for a player, it’s also got to fit where you are as a team. It’s got to fit where you are from a cap perspective, all those things have to match up. And so we look at all those,” Roseman told The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Jeff McLane.

“There’s a lot of attractive items out there, you know, and we spend a lot of time talking about every position and every good player, and we’re selfish. We want everyone, but at the end of the day, it’s just not the position we’re in right now.”

The Eagles have been considered one of the favorites to land Garrett in a trade. However, Browns general manager Andrew Berry reiterated Tuesday that they will not trade Garrett.

“We can’t imagine a situation where not having Myles as a part of the organization is best for the Browns,” Berry told ESPN’s Daniel Oyefusi. “… We don’t have an interest in trading Myles.”

If Garrett remains unavailable and Sweat leaves, the Eagles could try to bring in the likes of Malcolm Koonce or Khalil Mack through free agency.
