Royals land former Rookie of the Year in trade with Reds

The Kansas City Royals have shored up their infield through their latest trade with the Cincinnati Reds.

The Royals acquired Reds second baseman Jonathan India in exchange for starting pitcher Brady Singer. Kansas City also added outfielder Joey Wiemer in the deal. The Royals announced the news on Friday via X.

The news comes after reporters emerged earlier this month that the Royals and Reds were interested in an India-Singer swap.

The Royals had been looking for their everyday second baseman to pair next to superstar Bobby Witt Jr. in the middle of the infield. India could capably fill that void. Last season, India hit .248 with 15 home runs, 58 RBI and a WAR of 1.7 across 151 games for the Reds. The Royals will have the 27-year-old under team control for two more seasons before he hits free agency.

The Reds landed a quality starter in Singer, who last season posted a solid 3.71 ERA and had a 3.1 WAR across 179.2 innings pitched.

The deal makes sense for the Royals given that Singer was arguably the weakest link among its top four starting pitchers from last year. With Seth Lugo, Cole Ragans and Michael Wacha all returning for the Royals, Kansas City still has quality pitching depth in its rotation after trading for India.
