Russell Wilson got Commanders to jump offsides for Steelers win

The Pittsburgh Steelers got all they could handle from Jayden Daniels’ juggernaut Washington Commanders on Sunday. It even came to a point where a questionable spot on a Zach Ertz fourth-down catch in the final moments almost put the Steelers on the brink.

But then Russell Wilson and his savvy veteran experience entered the chat.

With the Steelers trying to ice away the win, they lined up to try and draw the Washington defense offsides on a fourth-and-short play. They very obviously were not going to run anything and risk giving the Commanders new life.

No smart offense would ever do that.

And yet, Wilson got rookie defensive tackle Jer’Zhan Newton to jump offsides with a hard count to give Pittsburgh the first down and the 28-27 win.

Oof, what a brutal way to buy a clear bluff:

The Steelers are now 3-0 since they handed over the starting quarterback reins to Wilson. And in that time, Wilson has been the steady, playmaking veteran that an otherwise solid Pittsburgh roster needed to contend.

As this offside sequence shows, his redemption tour appears to be fully on.
