Ryan Garcia is denying that he took PEDs [Performancing Enhancing Drugs] that he tested positive for from his April 20th fight against Devin Haney. Garcia blames it on Victor Conte, who he says helped design VADA [Voluntary Anti-Doping Association].
Garcia (25-1, 20 KOs). feels that it’s an inside job with him being made to look guilty by a false test to take away his win over Haney (31-1, 15 KOs).
Ryan says he’s already asked to have his B sample tested, and he has his professionals looking at his supplements to see if any of them contain the substances that he tested positive for.
“A Con Job”
“It’s straight bulls****. It’s a con job. We all know Victor Conte is a piece of s***,” said Ryan Garcia to DAZN Boxing, talking about his failed PED tests from last month on April 19th and 20th.
“He designed VADA. All of a sudden, I test positive. How do I go months and months not testing positive for something, and then on the last, the day before, and the day after, I’m positive? This is some A1 bulls***. I don’t know how this is possible.”
Some fans on social believe Ryan was set up in order to save the career and unbeaten record of the popular Eddie Hearn-promoted Devin Haney, who was on his way to superstardom going into his fight with Garcia, which was supposed to be a slam dunk win.
Haney had already given a controversial win over Vasily Lomachenko last year in a fight that fans felt he easily should have lost. During Haney’s fight with Ryan, many fans felt the referee had saved him from being knocked out in the seventh round by docking a point from Garcia when Devin was badly hurt after being dropped.
Ryan dropped Haney three more times in the round, and then referee didn’t count any of them. For the remainder of the fight, Haney held excessively, and the referee didn’t dock him points. The holding may have saved Haney from being stopped.
Garcia Calls For Further Testing and Investigation
“I asked for the B sample already. I’ve got professionals looking at all my supplements to see if they were tainted, and we’re going to figure it out. I don’t really give a f***. I don’t have to prove myself. Victor Conte is a piece of s***,” said Ryan.
It might not help Ryan to have his B sample tested when it’s from the same testing time. It’s rare that the B sample is different from the A sample. If Ryan tested positive because one of his supplements contained the banned substances, it wouldn’t matter that his B sample was checked.
Garcia Blames Conte
“How can we trust someone that was banned from baseball and then you come to our sport and you design a test that tested me positive? If you don’t think this is an inside job, you’ve got another thing coming to you and I’m going to prove it,” said Ryan.
No Rematch for Haney?
“Of course, his face is still f**** up, he can barely speak,” said Ryan Garcia, reacting to being told that Devin Haney says he doesn’t want a rematch against him. “I wouldn’t want a rematch either. I wouldn’t even ask his dad to save him anymore.
“His dad f**** up his life. He’s never going to be the same. I have never taken PEDs in my life. I was on tequila and weed. That’s it,” said Ryan.
Haney says he doesn’t want a rematch, but I think he was being disingenuous. He doesn’t have any options that pay the same kind of money that he can make fighting Ryan again. If he loses to one of the contenders or champions, his career is going to be over with as a major money maker.
