September 10, 2024 — Top 10 for the week of September 8

Today, we’re back with the first of our back-of-the-envelope weekly Top 10s for the 2024 season. This Top 10 is loosely based upon our preseason Top 10 that we released in late August on our social media platforms. We’ll have this feature every week until the week after Thanksgiving, then a more well-researched Top 50 in December.

As you can tell, there has been a lot of movement from that first back-of-the-envelope listing, especially with some of the August upsets that have shaken up the picture already. There are certainly going to be more happening on the way to the National High School Invitational in a couple of weeks.

Our RightToRightIsRight.com honorary No. 11 Team of the Week is Nantucket (Mass.), one of two teams in the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association that requires a ferry trip in order to compete. The Whalers last week beat long-time coastal powerhouse Dennis-Yarmouth (Mass.) 2-1 for their first win in 20 years in this rivalry

1. Pottstown Hill School (Pa.) 1-0
A talented side which might be the most difficult to beat, they got a pair of goals from Aubrey Turner in a 6-1 win over Owings Mills Garrison Forest (Md.) in a meeting of sitting champions

2. Manheim (Pa.) Township 4-0
Took a pair of wins on the black turf at Lehman Lake-Lehman (Pa.) on Saturday, including a 2-1 overtime win over the hosts

3. Mamaroneck (N.Y.) 2-0
Tigers got a 1-0 win at Shrub Oak Lakeland (N.Y.), outshooting the Hornets 18-4 in this early test

4. Hummelstown Lower Dauphin (Pa.) 3-0
The Falcons got a 1-0 win over 2022 state champion Mechanicsburg (Pa.) in what is an early measuring stick for this Mid-Penn Conference powerhouse

5. Emmaus (Pa.) 6-0
The Hornets have run through their first two weeks like a house afire, outscoring their opponents 60-0 thus far. Emmaus will have Summit Oak Knoll (N.J.) on Saturday in a reverse fixture from last year’s Royals’ win

6. Watertown (Mass.) 2-0
The Raiders gave up one goal in a season-opening win against Lexington (Mass.) but spun another clean sheet against Belmont (Mass.) in the second match of the season

7. Malvern Villa Maria (Pa.) 3-0
The PIAA Class A state champion Hurricanes had a major statement win over PAISAA champion Academy of Notre Dame in a clash of state champions

8. Norfolk (Va.) Academy 4-0
NA started with a win over Virginia Beach First Colonial (Va;), then won a Ring of Honor match against Louisville Assumption (Ky.)

9. Cherry Hill Camden Catholic (N.J.) 1-0
Won season-opener with 10-0 shutout of Cherry Hill (N.J.) East

10. Summit Oak Knoll (Calif.) 6-0
Started with a 6-0 shutout of Clark Johnson Regional (N.J.)

11. Nantucket (Mass.) 1-1
Claire Genthner scored the game-winning goal for the Whalers midway through the fourth quarter

And bear in mind: San Diego Canyon Hills (Calif.) 4-0, Denver Colorado Academy (Colo.) 4-0, Louisville Sacred Heart (Ky.) 7-2-1, Charlotte Myers Park (N.C.) 3-0, Villanova Academy of Notre Dame de Namur (Pa.) 2-1, Vienna James Madison (Va.) 5-0, Ashburn Independence (Va.) 1-1, Yorktown Tabb (Va.) 3-0, Oakton (Va.) 4-0
