Shelton Reaches Basel Final; Zheng Races into Tokyo Final

American Ben Shelton advanced to the finals of the Swiss Indoors in Basel, Switzerland on Saturday, defeating inform Frenchman Arthur Fils 6-3, 7-6(9).

Needing one hour and 18 minutes to advance, Shelton used his big serve and thunderous forehand to upend his speedy opponent.

Reaching the third final of his career, Shelton currently stands at 2-0 in championship matches.

Shelton will await the winner of the day’s second semifinal encounter featuring No. 4 seed Holger Rune vs. Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.

Entertaining Semifinal Encounters in Vienna

Saturday’s semifinal matches at the Erste Bank Open in Vienna, Austria will feature No. 2 seed Alex de Minaur facing Karen Khachanov and No. 6 seed Lorenzo Musetti taking on No. 7 seed Jack Draper.

Khachanov recently won the title in Almaty, Kazakhstan and de Minaur continues to return from an injury he sustained to his hip against Arthur Fils at Wimbledon.

Top seed Qinwen Zheng advanced to the finals in Tokyo, Japan on Saturday, defeating Russian Diana Shnaider 7-6(5), 6-3.

Needing one hour and 49 to advance, Zheng used her great groundstrokes and powerful serve to create seven aces and four breaks of serve.

Zheng will next face former Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin in Sunday’s final.

Kenin, who is currently ranked No. 155 in the world, entered the event with a 10-24 record on the season.

Zheng will be attempting to win her fourth career title and second Tour event of the season. The 22-year-old also captured the Olympic Gold Medal in Paris this past Summer.

Danilovic, Dolehide Reach Guangzhou Final

Saturday’s semifinal action in Guangzhou, China featured Caroline Dolehide and Olga Danilovic reaching the finals.

First up, Dolehide needed a third set tiebreaker to get past Lucia Bronzetti 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(9). Needing two hours and 39 minutes to advance, Dolehide will next face Olga Danilovic on Sunday.

Danilovic progressed to the championship match after top seed Katerina Siniakova was forced to withdraw down 4-3 in the third set.

Danilovic leads Dolehide 2-0 in career matches. However, the pair’s previous matches were held at the qualifying and challenger level.
