The MLB offseason is well underway, and the Philadelphia Phillies will face plenty of questions this winter. One of those questions is whether their starting rotation will remain the same in the 2025 season.
The Phillies have a few different routes they can take. They can keep the rotation the same with Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola, Ranger Suarez, Cristopher Sanchez and Taijuan Walker. Or, they can switch things up by making a trade and replacing a pitcher with someone else.
This is going to be a difficult decision for the Phillies as they also have top prospect Andrew Painter returning. He’s currently pitching in the Arizona Fall League for the Desert Dogs and is putting on a show. For Painter, it will all depend on whether he’s ready right out of the gate come spring training.
Should the Phillies opt to make a trade, one pitcher they have been linked to in the past and are currently reported to be in aggressive trade talks for is Garrett Crochet of the Chicago White Sox. Could Phillies fans see him in red pinstripes next season?
According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, we should look for the Phillies to be in the market for Crochet.
“No already-employed player was sought after more at these GM meetings than Chicago White Sox starter Garrett Crochet, who struck out 209 batters in 146 innings and earned only $800,000 last season. The White Sox have openly told teams he’s available and are expected to trade him by the end of the winter meetings, with the Philadelphia Phillies and Dodgers the most aggressive,” Nightengale writes.
