Sinner Wins Second Grand Slam Title at 2024 US Open

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner capped off a sensational Grand Slam season on Sunday at the US Open, claiming his second Major of the year over American Taylor Fritz.

Recording a 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 scoreline, Sinner used his power off the ground and movement from the baseline to create 23 winners, six aces and break the serve of his powerful opponent on five occasions.

Improving to 2-1 against Fritz in lifetime meetings, Sinner now owns two Major titles. The 23-year-old also captured the Australian Open in January.

The Italian star will all but surely end the year as the world No. 1 and will now head to the Asian Tour later this month.

He also defeated No. 5 seed Daniil Medvedev, No. 14 seed Tommy Paul and No. 25 seed Jack Draper en-route to his title.

Fritz, who was carrying the weight of a nation on his shoulders this Tournament, was playing in his first-ever Major final.

The 26-year-old had a difficult run to the finals, including wins over No. 4 seed Alexander Zverev, No. 8 seed Casper Ruud, No. 20 seed Frances Tiafoe and Italian Matteo Berretinni.

Fritz will move up to No. 7 in the world on Monday.

Women’s Final Recap

The best women’s hard-court player in the in world, Aryna Sabalenka, proved that her game from the baseline was too good for her opponent on Saturday, Jessica Pegula.

Winning an entertaining final 7-5, 7-5, Sabalenka now owns three Grand Slam titles. The 26-year-old has been dominant throughout the fortnight and will now shift her focus to the playing on the hard-courts in China.

Pegula, who enjoyed a fantastic summer on Tour, won the National Bank Open in Toronto, Canada, made the finals of the Cincinnati Open in Mason, Ohio and capped off her North American swing by reaching the finals in New York City.

The 30-year-old will move up to No. 3 in the world when the latest rankings are released.
