Stampeders’ Malik Henry out for season with patellar tendon injury

CALGARY — Wide receiver Malik Henry will miss the 2024 season, the team announced on Wednesday.

The Stamps have placed Henry on the six-game injured list. The 27-year-old missed most of 2023 with a non-contact Achilles injury, appearing in only three games with 228 receiving yards and a major. He is expected to undergo season-ending knee surgery after suffering a patellar tendon injury during Tuesday’s practice.

“It’s a heart-breaking situation after seeing Malik work so hard to come back from his Achilles tendon injury last year,” said Stampeders general manager and head coach Dave Dickenson. “As an organization, we will do everything we can to support Malik. In the meantime, we have to continue in our preparations for the season and have everyone step up to help fill the void.”

Henry had a breakout season in 2022 when he tallied 1,023 receiving yards in 2022, along with eight touchdowns. The Stamps signed him to a three-year contract extension after that season.

Calgary also announced they have signed National receiver Colton Hunchak and released National offensive lineman Alexandre Marcoux.

Hunchak spent four seasons with the Stampeders (2019, 2021-2023) and totalled 45 receptions for 606 yards after being selected with the last pick of the 2019 CFL Draft.

Finally, the team announced that National receiver Maxim Malenfant was placed on the retirement list.
