Former Texas Tech guard Terrence Shannon‘s case is officially moving to trial after the Douglass County courts found that probable cause exists.
Shannon appeared in a preliminary hearing on Friday morning, where Judge Sally Pokorny determined that there were enough grounds for the case to move on to trial.
Shannon’s lawyer, Mark Sutter, spoke on the decision for the case to go to trial saying, “Our legal team is neither shocked nor disappointed by the outcome of this event. A preliminary hearing is a procedural process that merely speaks to the threshold of evidence and whether a question of fact may exist for a jury. It has nothing to do with guilt or innocence. Those issues will be decided at trial, and we continue to look forward to our day in court.”
The trial will consist of two charges held against Shannon, one for the original felony rape charge and another for aggravated sexual battery. Shannon was suspended from the Illinois basketball team in December after charges came to light. The Illinois native would eventually be granted an injunction after Shannon sued the University of Illinois, which allowed him to return to basketball after missing a handful of games.
According to a report from WCIA’s Amanda Brennan, lawyers confirmed that Shannon’s trial date is loosely set for June 10th.
