With their season on the line, the Texas softball team beat Texas A&M 9-8 in nine innings in the second game of their Super Regionals match up.
On Friday night, the No. 1 Longhorns lost 6-5 to the Aggies. The Aggies were playing on Saturday for a chance to punch their ticket to the Women’s College World Series, but could not close out the win.

The Aggies had a 3-0 lead until the 4th inning, when the Longhorns bats started to wake up with a Joley Mitchell home run to left field to get UT on the board. Fast forward to the 6th inning with the Longhorns down 5-1, Texas put a 5-spot on the board to take a 6-5 lead. The Longhorns used small ball to get it done as Victoria Hunter and Mia Scott each drove in a run, then Viviana Martinez tied the game with a two-run single. Reese Atwood broke the tie with an RBI single to center field, scoring Martinez.
Texas took a 6-5 lead to the 7th when they tacked on two more runs on a Bella Denton home run. But then, Texas could not hold onto the lead as the Aggies tied the game in the bottom half of the inning Mya Perez hit a three-run home run off Estelle Czech to tie the game at eight.
After a scoreless eighth inning, Texas scored on an Ashton Maloney fielder’s choice, scoring Kayden Henry for a 9-8 lead. The Aggies were able to get a couple runners on in the bottom of the 9th inning, but Mac Morgan was able to close it out and pick up the win to force a Game 3 on Sunday.
The two teams will meet with the winner advancing to the Women’s College World Series.
