Texas Takes Game One Against Oklahoma State While Kansas State Ends Kansas’ Winning Streak

Is there anything better than cold beer and baseball? It’s a combination that is hard to beat during the season. No matter what kind of beer you drink (or how many), let’s take a look at some of the best action on the Big 12 baseball diamond from Friday with a nice six pack.

Best Game

Texas over #14 Oklahoma State

The first few innings of this game felt like a fist fight as both teams were trading blows back and forth. Eventually Oklahoma State took the lead in the third inning as Nolan Schubart and Aidan Meola went deep.

But Texas answered right back in the same inning as Max Belyeu and Kimble Schuessler tied the game for the Longhorns.

Eventually the Cowboys took the lead back in the seventh thanks to Carson Benge.

But once again, Texas roared back. Porter Brown got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to tie the game before Kimble Schuessler’s sac-fly gave them the lead.

The cherry on top for Texas was Will Gasparino’s solo blast to give the Longhorns an insurance run.

That was enough for Texas to win the game and now they have a chance to take the series on Saturday.

Best Win

Kansas State over Kansas

There were a lot of big wins on Friday night, but I wanted to put the focus on Kansas State for a bit. The Jayhawks came into this series on a seven-game win streak and were red hot. And while Kansas State didn’t have the best night offensively, it was their pitching that got the job done. Owen Boerema pitched an absolute gem against a good Kansas lineup and Tyson Neighbor’s closed it out with the bases loaded. It’s not often we see Kansas State win with pitching, but they certainly needed it on Friday.

Worst Loss

Texas Tech

After getting swept by Kansas last weekend, the Red Raiders fell flat on Friday night in their 8-0 loss to Oklahoma. Being shut out at home is not something we are used to seeing from this program and it was very disappointing to watch. They had just two hits in the first seven innings of this game and things fell apart for them on the mound in the fifth inning where they gave up four runs. Now their backs are against the wall as they will need to win two in a row to take the series.

Friday MVP

TCU LF Jack Arthur

Even though the game as pretty much over, Jack hit a grand slam to put the icing on the cake.

Pitcher of the Day

Oklahoma LHP Braden Davis

Braden pitched one heck of a game in a tough Lubbock environment. He went seven full innings and didn’t allow a single run. In fact, he only gave up two hits during his time on the mound.

Best Home Run

West Virginia DH Kyle West

Kye’s two-run blast in the sixth inning gave the Mountaineers the lead and they never looked back.
