BILOXI, MS – Biloxi may be known for its casinos and white sand beaches, but Biloxi is a hockey town.
With barely a spot available in the parking lot, the Mississippi Coast Coliseum was electric and full of energy on Saturday night for Pink Out the Rink in support of breast cancer awarenesses. The Mississippi Seawolves have players from all over North America and around the globe. On behalf of Pro Hockey News I had the opportunity to chat with two of my personal favorites – and they happen to be brothers.
Brendan and Greg Hussey are new to the Seawolves this season, but they are already becoming staples for the team and have secured a spot in the hearts of the fans.
“My takeaway is that we’re battling back,” said Brendan Hussey after falling to the Baton Rouge Zydego 4-3. “We got even with them, forced an overtime, and then forced a shootout.” Greg Hussey was 29 for 32 on saves for the contest for a .906 and went 1/2 on the shootout. Down 3-1 and with Greg pulled from the net, the Seawolves scored at 18:36 and again 50 seconds later to lead the game into OT.
“Losing to our old team is not an easy pill to swallow,” Greg remarked. “But it’s a breath of fresh air to be with the Mississippi Seawolves.”
“I hear we have a good beach here in Biloxi which I plan to take full advantage of,” said Brendan on a completely different note.
Ironically, both brothers came to the Seawolves this season from Baton Rouge where Brendan scored a career-high 21 points in 24 games during the 2023-2024 season. For almost their entire FPHL careers the two brothers have played together on the same teams, and both won the Commissioner’s Cup with the Watertown Wolves in 2022. Greg retired in 2019 but came out of retirement for that championship season.
“It was me,” Brendan chimed in when asked why.
Greg related a team catchphrase he coined in training camp – Pickles and Yoga. “Because pickles keep you from cramping up and yoga keeps you flexible.” Brendan has a phrase of his own that he’s adopted.
Pro Hockey News is eager to see what the Seawolves season has in store with this dynamic duo.
