Tiger Woods’ Caddie on the 2008 US Open and Woods’ Incredible Response to Warnings

Tiger Woods was known for his remarkable strength on the golf course, a quality that defined his career despite enduring numerous injuries along the way. Perhaps one of the most memorable displays of his determination came during the 2008 US Open.

Entering the competition with not one, but two stress fractures in his tibia and a knee in need of surgery, Woods was in huge pain. His former caddie, Steve Williams, revealed the extent of Tiger’s suffering, emphasizing the challenges he faced.

While doctors urged caution and recommended extensive surgical procedures, Woods remained undeterred. His commitment to the game surpassed any concerns for his physical well-being. Instead of heeding medical advice, he persisted with his training regimen, worsening his already serious condition.

Tiger refused to let his injuries dictate the outcome of the tournament. With his determination, he pushed through the pain.

The 2008 US Open became a stage for Woods to showcase his strength.

Tiger was in immense pain with his knee and when the scope his knee out they discover he has no ACL.

The doctors say to him you’re going to need major reconstruction. But it’s Tiger. He says * that. I’m going to deal with that later’. And he kept training. And of course he gets two fractures in his leg.”– he said, as quoted by Talk Sport.

Woods created even more problems for himself, but regardless of everything, he didn’t give up on the goals he set. Since the beginning of his career, he chased records and broke them, believing he could go down in the history of this sport as the greatest. Regardless of what happened, Woods was determined to achieve success. Doctors’ prognoses, advice from loved ones, or even the sense of pain weren’t enough to stop him. Woods dreamed of breaking Jack Nicklaus’s record and leaving his mark on history. His then-caddie believed there was nothing that could stop him.

“I remember thinking you’ve brought it upon yourself. Self-inflicted. The doctors say to him you’re going to be out of the game for a while but he’s got the 2008 US Open looming. Can he win a major and be one step closer to breaking Jack Nicklaus’ record? Jack’s sitting on 18 majors and Tiger needs to eclipse that mark to prove he’s the greatest player of all time.

There wasn’t anything to stop him. Two fractures in his leg and an ACL.“- he continued.

His former caddie vividly described the scene, recounting how they all witnessed the unmistakable agony etched across Woods’s face. It was a moment that left them all incredulous, questioning how he could even contemplate competing in the US Open under such circumstances.

Williams reveals Woods’ reaction to his warnings

Williams could sense that Woods was feeling the pain and going through agony. Observing each other, Williams believed that Woods had no right to compete at the US Open. However, his defiance and determination outweighed everything. Despite visibly being in pain, Woods went on to this Major and managed to clinch his 14th Major title.

Williams continued to elaborate on what happened, particularly recalling the second round when he urged Woods to withdraw from the tournament upon hearing a crack in his knee. Woods’s reaction to this request was quite intriguing.

“As he went to hit the ball, his foot slipped out and I heard the crack in his knee.

I just saw the look in his eyes. It was like he’d just been shot.

I said to him ‘Hey Tiger, you might be jeopardising your career here. Maybe this is the time to quit’. And I’ll never forget… he looks and me and he goes ‘Stevie,* you. I’m winning this tournament’.”- he continued.
